Suomalainen Tiedeakatemia 100 vuotta 2008

Suomalainen Tiedeakatemia täyttää 100 vuotta vuonna 2008. Se on yleistieteellinen keskusseura, jonka tehtävänä on edistää tieteellistä tutkimusta ja toimia korkeatasoista tiedettä edustavien tutkijoiden yhdyssiteenä. Tiedeakatemian 100-vuotis juhlavuoden avajaissymposiumi "Tieteen karikot" järjestetään 23. marraskuuta. Silloin tulee kuluneeksi 100 vuotta Tiedeakatemian perustamiseen johtaneesta kokouksesta, joka järjestettiin Suomalaisen Kirjallisuuden Seuran talossa. Tiedeakatemian 100-vuotisjuhla on Helsingin yliopiston juhlasalissa Mikael Agricolan päivänä 9. huhtikuuta 2008 ja juhlavuoden päätöstilaisuus Aleksis Kiven päivänä 10. lokakuuta 2008, tasan 100 vuotta Suomalaisen Tiedeakatemian ensimmäisen kokouksen jälkeen. Kaikki Tiedeakatemian 15 tieteenalaryhmää järjestävät lisäksi tieteellisiä kokouksia elokuun 2007 ja elokuun 2008 välisenä aikana.

Finnish Academy of Science and Letters 100 years in 2008

The Finnish Academy of Science and Letters, the largest general scientific and academic society in the country, will be celebrating its centenary in 2008. In view of its aim of promoting scientific research and serving as a bond between scholars representing advanced levels of scientific and academic learning, it will open its centenary year with a symposium on "Pitfalls in science" on 23rd November 2007, precisely 100 years after the meeting held on the premises of the Finnish Literature Society that led to the Academy's foundation. The actual centenary celebration will take place in the Great Hall of Helsinki University of 9th April 2008, Mikael Agricola's Day, and the closing ceremony for the centenary year on 10th October 2008, Aleksis Kivi's Day and exactly 100 years after the first meeting of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters. In addition, all 15 groups within the Academy representing different branches of science and humanities will arrange meetings of their own at some time between August 2007 and August 2008.
